Amidst a crowded field of talented bands, the full 5-piece came out swinging, playing some old favorites and some new tunes that will be on the next record. Featuring Ellen Stanley on banjo and vocals, Mother Banjo is a New England-raised, Minneapolis-based songwriter. Mother Banjo returns to showcase at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City February 15-20! The biggest folk/roots music conference in the US, this international gathering will include performances and talks by such artists as Billy Bragg and Ani Difranco! Mother Banjo & Ben Cook-Feltz are pleased to announce the release their new holiday EP Christmas Came Early! The first formal duo project from the married songwriters, it was produced by Ben Cook-Feltz and recorded by Bob Burns of the Flamin' Oh's. The special collaboration features guest performances by their bandmates and friends, including Dan Gaarder (electric guitar), Andy Schuster (electric bass), Cole Mickelson (acoustic guitar), Eric Paulson (upright bass), Joe Olsen (drums), Sarah Morris (vocals) and Norah Rendell (Irish whistle). Ranging from rocking Americana tunes to haunting carols, the EP features lesser known holiday songs, including the African American spiritual "Go Where I Send Thee," the Mother Banjo original "Christmas Came Early" and a vibey treatment of traditional Irish tune "The Wexford Carol."

On November 18, the Mother Banjo Band won first prize in the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association's Race for a Place Contest! As a result, they will be getting a main stage slot at the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival August 10-13, 2017. Mark your calendars, and get more info here.

Mother Banjo will be in Duluth Saturday, June 18, running Grandma's Marathon with her bass player Eric Paulson and playing a post-race party that night at Red Herring with the trio. They'll be playing at 10 pm, sandwiched in between Duluth favorites Feeding Leroy and Minneapolis-based Americana songwriter Art Vandalay. We're very excited about this Bands on the Run show and will be offering special door prizes for all marathon runners who bring their race bib. Hope everyone can come out for this special party as we celebrate all the runners and marathon supporters!
